Musings on Authenticity

What does authentic even mean anymore?

Is any light source other than the sun authentic?
How many I love you's are authentic?
How many Fine, thanks are?
When my dental hygienist sing-songs "Ooopen" instead of "Open your fucking mouth, moron" is she being authentic?
Should "I have no interest in you" replace "Nice to meet you?"
Should there be an authentic label for vegan leather to ensure it is cow free?
Are influencers authentic? Does it matter?

What makes a person authentic (as opposed to sincere)?

According to Psychology Today, the seven characteristics of authentic people are:
Have realistic perceptions of reality.
Are accepting of themselves and of other people.
Are thoughtful.
Have a non-hostile sense of humor
Are able to express their emotions freely and clearly.
Are open to learning from their mistakes.
Understand their motivations.

Will the world's authentic people be a formidable match for AI?

Merriam Webster's word of 2023 is authentic.

Interesting that their choice is a word
that's becoming increasingly difficult to define.

Author's Note
I've always thought of myself as authentic, but if the Psychology Today article is of any merit, I could be better at accepting myself and others, and removing some hostility from my sense of humor.
