If Stars Were Teapots - with Maeve_Edmonson

If stars were teapots,
I'd still dip over for you.
and ears on the donkey
would stand tall and true.
seen from the eyes
were wings of a dragon,
a trail of tears through
this ride on a wagon.

If memories were Kleenex
you carried in a pocket
and knotholes in woods,
I'd surround my neck with a locket.
I echoed good night to leaves,
but your picture, I hold dear.
I still have your tearstained letters,
but the ink has been smeared.

Roosters crow in the morning
but I sit with ravens at night.
the old lady hid in shoes
to keep out of sight.
She spent her days counting
strings from the pitied violin.
hanging from fig trees
were fruits plump full of sin.

life was a golden Rolodex
on a pair of roller-skates,
ticking by and spinning
as my heart dealt with hate.

I was filled with happy notes,
and you had the key.
Keep it safe around your neck,
a reminder when you see.

neon Lights sang a song
every night before you,
getting lost in flashing signs,
I masked the pain with booze.
The growl of the city's teeth,
the wolf huffed at our straw,
my shelter blew away,
I lost you, stars and all.

if stars were teapots
