Return to Alaska
I left my heart aching in awe.
In the care of the giant towering mountains,
that deafen even the crow's callous caw.
A collection of a million stolen breaths.
lay in a calm glory of silence upon the horizon.
To rival the most peaceful of deaths.
Stoic peaks salute to pierce
the cloud barren sky.
It is here that exists not a single why.
Maybe just an invitation to climb.
Or to stand varnished with astonishment
as the rising hunks of ecstasy
seduce my humble eye.

I have always wanted to visit Alaska. My friend wants to take me on a cruise to the Bahamas. I burn way too easily. I suggested Alaska. He has severe neuropathy that is affected by the cold. I don’t think we will be taking that cruise to Alaska, but maybe someday I’ll get there.

I got to go by land as my sister has lived in Anchorage for almost 20 years. Believe it or not the cold is different in Alaska than in the northeast, it's not as biting a cold. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been on earth. Who knows maybe I'll wind up there someday. Then you will be messaging me - Debbie I'm so sick of your mountain poems, 🤣

Mountains always seem lonely to me, the way they stand stoically in all weather. Yet, they are not lonely at all as they are usually part of a range. Maybe it's just their stillness. Lonely but at peace somehow? I don't know. 😊

Mountains to me are majestic and represent strength.
And YES, peace.
Thanks for checking out.

I like some of the angles of perception you capture with your definitive and metaphorical disposition. The emotion is very well depicted. One can really see that you yearn to be in the Alaskan wilderness, as you relate your affection and longing for such a place. Very unique language and communicative heart. Mountainous scenery, and the plane of the horizon is imaginable in the way you capture it. Just some of my take, ha-ha. Thanks for sharing.

I did want the reader to see and feel what the mountains provoke in me. Thank you for all the nice comments.
I have a cool quote on Alaska, I'll message it to you if I find it, lol

I can guarantee you would love it. I wrote the poem looking at photos of Denali, ( mt. mcKinley). That is the highest mountain in the United States. My brother climbs high points of mountains in I think 48 states and my sister lives in Alaska. So mountains run in the family, lol
Thanks for reading, have a great night

I lived in Alaska for two years, and covered a lot of ground there. Even as brutal as the weather can be, it is beautiful. Especially the northern lights. Always a wow moment.
Your write is majestic enough to remind me.
Well done. A great write.

Thank you! That's so cool you got to experience Alaska. I've only seen the northern lights in pictures my sister has taken.
I'm so glad it gave you a nice memory. 😊
