Moths of Pompeii

Volcanic dust
Secrets of yesterday
Melted passengers
In the air of Pompeii

Sweeping antenna beads
Scooping up ashes
Like holy hands
Fleeing sooty pallbearers

Nocturnal wanderlust
Swarming with care
Across Mount Vesuvius
In molten lava-light

Floating Roman embers
Seared patterns of eyes
Blinking in their wings
In sand and grey tones

Powder clinging lives
Survived
On the

Moths of Pompeii

Author's Note
I was listening to this song and wanted to write something that had to do with eruption of Pompeii. Then later in the week Mark sent me a picture of a moth. It was huge and so beautiful. I got inspired because I feel their wings are dusty and thought about ashes.
My mind went and this is what I came up with
