Moths of Pompeii
Volcanic dust
Secrets of yesterday
Melted passengers
In the air of Pompeii
Sweeping antenna beads
Scooping up ashes
Like holy hands
Fleeing sooty pallbearers
Nocturnal wanderlust
Swarming with care
Across Mount Vesuvius
In molten lava-light
Floating Roman embers
Seared patterns of eyes
Blinking in their wings
In sand and grey tones
Powder clinging lives
Survived
On the

Author's Note
I was listening to this song and wanted to write something that had to do with eruption of Pompeii. Then later in the week Mark sent me a picture of a moth. It was huge and so beautiful. I got inspired because I feel their wings are dusty and thought about ashes.
My mind went and this is what I came up with

You really should have the moth pic attached!
But anyway, my epic worldly subject writer, your ideas/visions always make me think. Your subjects are so strong of vision. Bold, even. This continues that aspect. You amaze me, ya know. No fluff in your writes.
This deserves a boop!

Hi Crimsin:)
I just had this vision in my head. Had to write it down.
That moth kept fluttering around in my dreams.
Had to let him out. hahaha
It's on Styx's Avatar now.
It looks like it has eyes!!

Pompeii and yesterday is certainly one of the more inspired rhymes I've seen lately:)
Fascinating comparison and contrast.

Hi MS
I saw the moth after I heard the song. I'd been contemplating writing about Pompeii for a while. When I saw the pic I had to merge the two somehow and make it interesting. I'm stoked I got a fascinating from ya!
Thanks for stopping by and taking a read:)

Dear A,
I very much enjoyed this write. Kind of like an epic motion picture through the eyes of the moth, soaring above the ashes of Pompeii. Witnessing the chaos and destruction. Very interesting concept. I also liked the contrast of the delicacy of the moth and ruggedness of the scene. Gritty and ethereal at the same time.
Suffering a lack of RL’s. I offer 🏆 in lieu. Terrific write. H🌷

Hi H!
I'm so happy you enjoyed this little scene. I worked on it for a couple of days. Trying to play around with words and challenge myself.
You're comment is exactly what I was trying to convey so thank you:)
No worries about the RL - Just happy to see ya:)

I call my dog Booper even though her real name is Onyx. I think Booper is universal for all breeds of dog. What do this have to do with your fab poem ? Not much just getting in on the boop speak.
Good work A

I love this perspective! It's a beautiful communion between history and present day upon the back of the living.

The moth doesn't look that big in the pic because my hands/fingers are so long. But that sucker was pretty fricking big. And it can probably beat up all the dainty butterflies. Lol.

I expect the moths were the only lifeform left standing after that horrific event too. They do look dusty, it's true.

Hi Billy:)
I actually did some research and the dust are actually scales.
Had no clue. LOL
I've been wanting to write something about Pompeii for a while and this came together.
Thanks for checking this out!
