footprints on the pavement
“You can't leave a footprint that lasts if you're always
walking on tiptoe.”—Marion Blakey
martyrs
walk in mortar,
culprits
in the sand;
pulpits
hide big talkers,
gloves are
love’s command.
footprints
on the sandbank
wither
into nought
when their
(fr)agile print tank
drinks the
ocean, fraught
with infirm
commitment
to a
solid ink:
useless
is their shipment
when the
pages s(t)ink.
mammon
blinds mean (th)inkers,
famine
bares the poor,
hooks and
lines and (s)inkers
on the
oceanfloor.
footprints
on whitewater
drown
before their birth;
footprints
on the sandbank
are of
brittle worth.
footprints
on the pavement
float
away like dust;
footprints
made in mortar
are the
martyr’s (t)rust.
