seasons of woman
Spring dawns in a woman’s life
wearing innocence like a gossamer gown
eyes bright & heart full
hope held in the palm of her hand
a gift she’s anxious to share
as long as there’s love
there’s nothing to fear
she glows
scattering her petals across fertile earth
pouring her beauty into his keeping
believing her seeds will be cherished
as she does his
that he will see her worth
but he fades quietly away
leaving her garden untended
never seeing the flowers she nurtures & grows
~
Summer slips vibrantly into being
hot blooded & full of passion
a burgeoning bloom at its fullest
intoxicating in its aroma
she unknowingly uses her perfumed spirit
a beguiling allure
drawing his eyes inexorably to her
a wild flower
just barely past its youth
she shares her provocative scent
barely understanding her own power
a few heady dances & he loses interest
pursuing other exotic blossoms
and she wilts in the suddenly unbearable heat
becoming weary
~
Autumn falls upon her a little wiser
more cautious in approach
she holds herself with elegance & grace
having already given so much of herself away
with no return on the investment
she takes the lesson
guarding her heart within her gentle bosom
not locked up but less open
key still in her palm
but held loosely within a fist
waiting for the one not in a rush
willing to take time & build a foundation
seeing her as deserving of the risk
but he slides from a glimmer of hope
to another lost dream
and her days drift into a new season
~
Winter drapes like a cloak over her shoulders
warming her aching bones
as life gets a little colder
she’s given herself in honesty & trust
felt the breath of youth
and of love
basked in the rays of fiery sun
sowing her seeds
some taken root
and some having failed
she slowly settles calmly
into the darkening days of her life
reflecting on beauty & memory
and how they both fade away over time
she returns again to her oldest belief
when there is love
there is nothing to fear
