Image for the poem two brothers

two brothers

(opposition disposition)

“Together, [they] form a necessary paradox;
not a senseless contradiction.”―Criss Jami, Healology

one is a priest,
the other is a pest;
him, too, a beast.
his sibling does his best,
sending the light,
where brother casts a plight;
the one engaged,
the other man enraged.

one is a friend,
the other full of ire;
him, too, a fiend,
his sib the world’s desire.
one shifts the blame,
his brother takes the hurt;
one mends the lame,
the other rends the heart.

one is a boast,
the other is a toast;
him, so refined,
his brother undefined.
the one, death-sick,
the next heals with music;
one brother staying,
the odd one go-away-ing.
