The US have the White House

Canada has..........nothing.
24 Sussex Drive,
Where PMs used to reside
Is a dump falling apart, totally useless
A shame.
The debate of course:
Would cost zillions to build something decent
In appropriate place
When ''normal'' people struggle
Just to find any decent and affordable place
To live.

Sad. Sometimes the building mirrors the residents. In our case the mansions cost a bomb...of taxpayers money 🤑😂

And thus the problem: It is also a matter of precaution and safety for the PM: 24 Sussex is pretty much on the side-walk. Also easily accessible from the river behind. Also a matter of prestige when the PM receives dignitaries etc. Yes, it is taxpayers money but still.........

it's interesting because these types of residences are supposed to represent power, prestige. and yet if doesn't have that, what message is it sending to everyone else.

It did have both at one time. Not anymore. PS: anyway, it sits tooooo close to the main road: so high security risks. Also the river right behind it. A while back, while one PM resided there (after Trudeau père) a guy approached the house from behind, entered and made its way up where the couple was sleeping. Luckily the wife heard the noise and attakced the fellow with an eskimo sculpture.......
