The Mermaid's Tale

I met the Devil on the deep blue sea  
where a mermaid came to rescue me  
Her tail was pink and her hair was green  
If I was king she'd be my queen  
 
When mermaids smile the fishies dance  
and even sharks dream of romance  
She poured sweet wine into my cup  
but an octopus got tangled up  
 
High on the beach we kissed till dawn  
and it felt like I was newly born  
I promised God I'd be devout  
but she had to run when the tide went out  
 
Now I prowl the shore with my telescope  
heart on sleeve with fading hope  
Love isn't always what it seems  
so I'll pray I find her in my dreams
