Image for the poem linger

linger

a light caress on my soul and I weep
keening for a love so deep
bitter are the days, kept

internal smiles shift into sharp daggers
shaded beauty turns dark

tilted glory will I look the same?

vanity knows I will not
this world has altered me
I weep for innocence
how long since I last saw her face?

star gazing at you
your enigmatic smile twist into anger
and I no longer recognize you

wisps of doubt shatter the quiet resolve inside me
I rise to the top in my soul passing my demons on the way
I gaze inward and press forward
time will not wait on me

a moment too long in the past
and my sacred secret is gone
