Hidden Emotional States
Where is my joy?
I have buried it in a coffee tin in the back yard
Because when it is brought into the light
It is too exposed to the rain that would extinguish it
Where is my happiness?
It's in the linen closet wedged between the sheets
Far from hands that could rip it apart like tissues
Because I can't put it back together the flittering pieces
Where is my peace?
It's in the fridge by the frozen blueberries
Crystalized and fuzzy from years of freezer burn
It cannot evaporate away from me if it is solidified
Why do I hide them?
There's nothing but anguish when your joy, happiness and peace
Are snuffed with careless fingers pinching them away
Protecting these emotions is all I can do
I have buried it in a coffee tin in the back yard
