the patience of history

Summer Solstice
2023

9:07 pm

watching the sunset
of the longest day of
the year

the evening sky swirls
with pink, pale yellows
and reds

Monet would smile

soon this extraordinary
sky and evening will
pass into the
memory of
history

no human lips
will speak of
it again

and grief will serve
no noble purpose
of our protest

no matter how
beautiful the
moment

no matter it's
meaning to
us

no matter the
eyes that
see

no matter the
hands that
touch

no matter the
heart that
feels

everything is merely
history waiting to
happen
