Summer Solstice

watching the sunset
of the longest day of
the year
the evening sky swirls
with pink, pale yellows
and reds
Monet would smile
soon this extraordinary
sky and evening will
pass into the
memory of
history
no human lips
will speak of
it again
and grief will serve
no noble purpose
of our protest
no matter how
beautiful the
moment
no matter it's
meaning to
us
no matter the
eyes that
see
no matter the
hands that
touch
no matter the
heart that
feels
everything is merely
history waiting to
happen
