you said you loved me
not sure how
this works
any of it
life just leaves
me wanting
purity in situations
is nothing sacred?
spilling words
on flesh
where run off
is heavier
than a river
that takes you to moments
before your time
with others that mean nothing
to you
but to them
it still means something
before you
time was spent
however they wanted
now?
are you bored?
is this not enough for you?
am I not enough
time is effort
no?
she doesn't have time
to wait any more
for something real
she's exhausted by those
loving the idea of love
but not really wanting
to put in the effort
I guess it's just really
hard for some people
she's tired of being found
by those
who think they want to know
but not really
this works

I don't know if there is really "that someone special." The human animal is fickle and easily distracted by new, shiny objects.

You so poignantly illustrate the anguish and frustration that can be caused by love, the semblance of love, ostensible love, and the cunning artifice of love. What a beautiful, idealistic desire:
"life just leaves

And I worry that I, at various times in my life, could have been the poster boy for this category:

loving the idea of love
but not really wanting
to put in the effort"
I have since become much more sagacious and, dare I say, pure in this respect.

Some are simply in love with the idea of love: the initial feeling and high. However, when it comes to commitment and the work it takes, it definitely separates the wheat from the chaff. May your daughter find the love and peace she deserves.

I really love this poem. It does a fantastic job of expressing the deep frustrations and desires of the person telling the story. The emotions feel so genuine and real, which makes it even more powerful and vulnerable. The plea for true connection and effort in relationships is something that I think a lot of people can relate to and it really makes you stop and think. Overall, great job!
