Where Flora, Fauna And Beneficent Humans Gather - Part 1

Since childhood
one event has brightened
every New Years Day
a glorious morning parade
from traditionally sunny
Pasadena, California relayed
watched in robe, slippers, and p-jays
the Tournament of Roses
heralding a championship college Football game
rarely watched by my kin
unless dad’s school was playing therein

Unlike the more commercial NYC
cartoon ballooned cavalcade
marched on Thanksgiving day
that’s become one big advertisement
for the latest plays on Broadway
the variegated, festive floats
that navigate Pasadena streets
are by volunteering charitable folks
financed, designed, and assembled
serene displays evoking happiness and hope
causing the hardest of hearts to wax sentimental

Author's Note
NaPo 2023 #28. As you may be able to surmise, I love writing about favorite memories, traditions etc...ever waxing nostalgic. Because now, at my age, I've accumulated lots of nostalgia. BTW, I don't mean to demean the Macy's Thanksgiving day fete...I enjoy that one too. But the Rose parades my favorite.
