Today, I drew a lemon in the dirt
Today, I drew a lemon in the dirt
on a stranger's van.
It was parked just across the road
and somebody had already scrawled,
'Chris is a lemon', amongst other things
into the grime.
I etched a lemon into the dirt,
then gave it a pair of stick-on googly eyes.
I bought myself a plastic fairy wand,
complete with flashing lights
and then, for a dare,
attached my bank card
and paid for my shopping with it.
Going one step further,
I tied it to my key card for work
and spent all day opening doors with it,
as well as using it to operate the photocopier.
With my birthday money,
I bought two cuddly toys
just because I thought they were cute.
My daughter bought me another from the set
because this week's grown-up problems
were making me sad.
I spent this evening giggling
at silly signs and photos of items in shops
which have received the googly eye treatment.
When I went back outside,
I saw that somebody - presumably Chris -
had rubbed off the proclamation
and most of the lemon,
but left the googly eyes intact.
Adulting is hard, but
a sense of humour makes the world more joyful.
