You were expecting to see one hundred.
What the hell happened?!
No excruciating illness
No dramatic accident
No human violence
No self-inflicted end
No slow decline
or even whispers of trouble.
Were you as shocked as the rest of us
or were there warnings?
In that moment, did you know it was the end?
Did you accept and welcome death
or was it a painful struggle?
As we spent days
trying to figure out if you were in there,
did you already know it was over
or were you trying to come back?
It doesn’t make sense, you know.
If it could happen to you—
healthy and young at heart—
then what the hell can anyone count on?
It’s also dreadfully unfair
that someone so full of life should go
when so many dead souls
still walk among us
every day.
