Tahoe Winter Break-The Stay
Pausing in Tahoe City
at Fanny Bridge to have a look
at gigantic brown trout
finding refuge from the hook
in crystal blue pool
water frigid in summertime
Pass the Kaiser lakeside mansion
used in filming “Godfather II”
where Fredo embarked for early morning angling
when contrary his wishes
was sent to sleep with fishes
Mere seconds after arriving
at our cabin’s doorstep
the hushed stillness of the scene
erupts into cacophonous din
as eight stir crazy children
from station wagon doors explode
laughing, running through crunching snow
catching falling flakes on out stretch tongues
till dad and mom remind
there’s tons of luggage to schlep
Comforting, subtle scent of cedar
whispers welcome to your mountain home
scrambling to find a bedroom
to quickly stow our stuff
parents, satisfied, proclaim
okay you’ve worked enough
rocketing out of doors
to do winter wonderland chores
building snowmen, igloo forts
and etching angel wings

Thank you, K❣ Fun times. Yes, we were a put-together family. When my mom died in 1970 my dad remarried with a divorced woman from work with 5 kids. I have two sisters an 2 step brothers, three step sisters yeah it was a mad house at times.
