As Wise as a Crow

What if I never met him?
Would I ponder birds like I do?
Would I see the magic hidden
In the trees and skies of blue?

What if our paths had never crossed
And I never knew his name?
Would I have succeeded,
In my studies, all the same?

What if I didn't seek his opinion
On so many hard days?
Would I have let logic, with understanding,
guide my haphazard ways?

What if I didn't tell him
How much he means to me?
Would I have hung my head,
In shame, for all eternity?

What if "I love you to pieces"
were words I never told?
Would he, could he,
somehow know?

What if I was too late
In saying my random Hellos?
Would "Goodbye" be all I could whisper,
to the cries of the crows?

Fate, please be kind to him,
In what your future brings,
My heart was made purer,
Because of the wisdow I found under his wings.

Author's Note
I haven't had many good male role models in my life.
Paul and Rob were two of my undergrad professors, and the few exceptions to the rule.

Over the years, I have basically adopted them as my own, if they were ever bothered by it, it was never shown.
I have saught opinions more times than I can count and sometimes I just reach out to say "Hello."

Both are inspirational, wise, passionate in their causes, caring, & frankly, funny as hell.

Everytime I reach out, Paul has had more health issues, it always breaks my heart.
Selfish, maybe, but I never want to say goodbye.
I know that any amount of time, will never be enough.
