Is it crucial where you live?
Certainly yes I believe
When I was young
I moved to a northern city where my dad worked
Through the window of the rented house
I could see my school playground
And when I stood at the playground
I could see my mom sewing umbrellas
It was convenient to solve my homesick
As a newcomer at a new school
Everything was intimidating
When hearing my south accent
My teacher and classmates burst out laughing
The Taiwanese Chinese was the funny point
However, I was confused when they laughed
The only voice they enjoyed was my singing
Being Recommended
I became a member of the school chorus
School and home are usually remote
About 3-meter intervals with them
That was my mom's wisdom

Dear RJ,
I was touched by your poem and the memory you shared. I was not surprised children would laugh at something unknown (your accent) but I was surprised to read the teacher laughed. That made me sad. We’re wired to trust adults to guide and care for us, that just seemed such a careless and thoughtless thing to have done to a child. I loved that you sang and got selected for the chorus. An awesome turn in the story. Wonderful write to remind us of our given gifts and strengths as we grow. H🌷

Thank you, my dear friend, for your understanding and consolation. No blaming for the teacher's laughing since it was truly funny I guess. Something is really hard to refrain from overdoing when it is unexpected.
