Into the Walternate Universes

Alpha 1

I was beginning to fall asleep when I opened my eyes
At 11:11pm a blue round portal suddenly appeared
I thought it was dream then I wanted to scream
When a cloaked man stepped through sporting a beard

I got out of the bed as my wife soundly slept
When the cloaked stranger then revealed his face
It was me from some other universe or galaxy
Saying “don’t be afraid” as he quickly made his case

“I am you from a parallel world of the infinite universe
Sent here to help you and your other selves strive
For in other worlds you are part of a tipping point
And you’ve been assigned to help save many lives”

I thought I was dreaming as he called me to come forth
So in my shorts and t-shirt he and I went through
And what seemed to be a wormhole through space
In a second we arrived in a world that looked to be brand new

There were skyscrapers and flora all around them
The skies were clear with the most beautiful blue
As we walked the streets in a pleasant morning
My alternate self said “we have to debrief you”

“I am Walter Alpha-B-74, code for my world
You have been designated R-O-O-9-2
You’ll be assigned thirty parallel universes
Each one unique yet similar but close to you”

As we walked briskly through this futuristic metropolis
I couldn’t believe when I looked up and saw flying cars
He said “throughout our history we haven’t had wars
Here science has advanced, we’ve reached several stars”

At the heart of city I saw a large square block building
Where hundreds of other me’s were walking inside
I saw myself in different shapes, sizes, disguises and clothes
Many of us looking bewildered and some even wide-eyed

We entered a huge conference room with hundreds of tables
Each of us assigned thirty specific worlds and universes
As I sat we all stared at each other it was like a hall of mirrors
While other me’s in uniforms were special forces

We were given folders each containing rules and codes
Along with a device that looked like metallic wrist brace
As the chief me at the podium in front of spoke and said
“Careful with the portals you don’t want to be lost in space”

An hour later after the full debrief we were given our lists
We were all dismissed to go back to our own realms
While I wanted to talk my other selves Alpha-B-74 said
“Don’t stray into unassigned worlds or you’ll be overwhelmed”

In the morning when I woke up it felt like a weird dream
All the alternate selves I met were still fresh in my head
I went about my day running errands and other things
And didn't notice there was a strange device under my bed

As I drove around I couldn’t stop thinking about the dream
And later that night I felt a strange anticipation
It was at 11:11pm when I got up to get a drink of water
When I saw the device blinking, making calculations…
