Shifting Realities
sometimes i shift
from obsessive-compulsive
to something like
attention-deficit
observing a flower
first thought:
‘pretty’
then:
its red
it has thorns
it smells good
it’s a rose
labeling
it likes full sun
it doesn’t like wet feet
it is dormant in winter…
categorizing
the fruit is loaded with vitamin c
rationalizing
obsessive-compulsive
often
i find myself
analyzing
instead of
experiencing
appreciating
attention-deficit
buddha or
confucius or
jesus or
mohammed or
(maybe all of them or
someone else)
said
“excess of reason is
a form of madness”
planting tomatoes and eggplant
in perfect rows
organizing
controlling
sometimes i shift from
obsessive-compulsive
i wonder
questioning
am i mad…
or indifferent
or insensitive
or confused
or depressed
observing the sky
first thought:
‘beautiful’
then:
it’s blue
to something like
attention-deficit
wind picking up
clouds forming
cirrus or
cumulus or…
i think it might rain
