I'm super curious as to what compelled you to add the green "dots" .  They mimic stakes to the hearts in the painting? As if they are pinning the patchworks down.    Dude, I'm a curious guy!

Truth be told, this is a section from a larger 9x12 painting.  Often I will dismember a painting if once done, doesn't perform well. So the best thing is to surgically remove what does work.  Wrote the poem first then looked at my paintings to see what fit.
I had a lot of time to paint during the first year of the pandemic.  Lots to choose from.  
It was a dark painting so green dots were to give it a out of world feel.

I'm "observant".  I can't help it. Part of my Rain Man syndrome.   Lol.

I like intelligent questions like yours.
Often people tell me what they see in my paintings and then I see it too. My goal often is to create a mood through abstraction.  I'm not literal at all in painting.  
I leave that to the pros.  
I'm a victim of attention deficit disorder.
I paint and write fast, otherwise nothing gets done.  Everything is a burst energy ..

I thought of a quilt too.  The red will win against pistachio but not without a bloody fight….
