My condolences it is so terrible and senseless, sometimes it seems like our capacity for suffering and tragedy is so encompassing and everything is chaos. When my best friend died of liver cirrhosis, I marveled that everything just goes on without him.

It's a hard read. Some things are beyond our control. We could try avoiding certain situations to stay safer but I don't think that works either. Anyone could be home, supposedly safe when suddenly a gas pipe ruptures, for example! My poem 'One Slip!' also draws on, to some extent, what you're describing here.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. This poem captured the random tragedy of life.

It seems to find good poetry, one has to go deep underground! :)
