Mortality
Who shall explain
devastating tragedy
imprisoned in death
never to be free
Demons do creep
there is no misgiving
venomous strikes
attacking the living
Spectres of regret
carve images in the mind
casting ominous shadows
calamity assigned
Heart wrenching fate
brutal and unfair
it comes for us all
innocents beware

imprisoned in death
never to be free
Demons do creep
there is no misgiving
venomous strikes
attacking the living
Spectres of regret
carve images in the mind
casting ominous shadows
calamity assigned
Heart wrenching fate

A dear friend who survived alcoholism and cancer died tragically in a car accident. I don't understand the unfairness. Such a loss.

You are not the only one who does not understand the silliness, the stupidity and the cruelty of life. Regards, Robert.

My condolences it is so terrible and senseless, sometimes it seems like our capacity for suffering and tragedy is so encompassing and everything is chaos. When my best friend died of liver cirrhosis, I marveled that everything just goes on without him.

It's a hard read. Some things are beyond our control. We could try avoiding certain situations to stay safer but I don't think that works either. Anyone could be home, supposedly safe when suddenly a gas pipe ruptures, for example! My poem 'One Slip!' also draws on, to some extent, what you're describing here.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. This poem captured the random tragedy of life.

The darkness oozes out of all the seams here. A wonderful piece of poetry.

Dear VOI,
Thank you for the read and response. This one has been a tough one to revisit. I miss her strength, wisdom, kindness and most of all her sense of humour. I appreciate your feedback. Maybe I’ll go back and read what others wrote. Bless🙏
