Nothing
In a world of everything,
I feel a numb nothing.
It's tiring, as we search, scour, explore,
probe, pursue.
For a single trace of anything,
that feels like something.
That moment of thrill beyond the agony of simply existing.
What if we are here, alive, & there is just absolutely
nothing that lays beyond.
Human obliteration.
A noiseless, sightless, touchless blackness.
Or maybe our spirit, naked of flesh, still has a mind.
a consciousness that survived,
just to further agonize.
I feel a numb nothing.
It's tiring, as we search, scour, explore,
probe, pursue.
For a single trace of anything,
that feels like something.
That moment of thrill beyond the agony of simply existing.
What if we are here, alive, & there is just absolutely
nothing that lays beyond.
Human obliteration.
A noiseless, sightless, touchless blackness.
Or maybe our spirit, naked of flesh, still has a mind.
a consciousness that survived,
just to further agonize.

(just) to further agonize. Dark mood indeed. Nicely expressed. Regards, Robert.

Agreed, uncomfortable, unbearable, overwhelming, but I do too, believe it holds a lesson, a chance for growth. I didn't always feel that way though. Rock bottom was my summit I was that low. I hope today is a better day for you......thx for reading 💜

I love what you've proposed. When I'm in a numb dark mood, I fear the mind will live on in agony. But on most days I believe in an eternal peace & happiness. I'm happy to have inspired you to write your comment.
Have a great day!

Well, for me, I think a lot of this comes down to money! I know the saying, 'Money doesn't buy you happiness.' Ok, fair enough but as my best mate once said, 'Would you rather be miserable in comfort or in squalor?' Lol. 😉

The strange peace that has engulfed me when I have felt as if there is nothing left has been so exquisitely demonstrated in this poem.
Thank you for writing.

Thank you so much. There is a strange peace in feeling there is nothing left.
I'm caring for my mom who has dementia, so a great many days, I feel drained of life, left to wonder.....
I'm grateful for the strength to push beyond these dark moods. Thx so much for your compliments, DUP is a wondrous escape for me. 🌻 💜

Dark moods are okay.
Especially when exquisitely told.
I live in dark moods often so can appreciate your write and often some light that follows the darkness....

One of the most curious dichotomies is the vast number of thoughts nothing conjures. An emotive piece. From a reader's stand point the last line of S2, especially riding on the heels of human oblivion feels redundant. The context of oblivion holds its own.
Consider giving nothing a presence in the space between S2 and S3 ending S2 on oblivion. That single word does the work of the less, ness line.
