Dear Summer,

how quickly you ran ahead of me
long legs so beautifully kissed by the sun racing through fields of flowers
warm grass in all shades of emerald
cool rocky rivers
beckoning bare feet to wade
glowing in the hot sun
her dress drenched
in summers perfume

door ajar
autumn came almost overnight
blowing cold breezes
through the eves
whistling around corners
encouraging the need
for soft warm comfort

fire is sparked
in a glowing chimney
black charred with age
burnt oak perfume
fills the senses
winter closes in

skies are a seamless
stretch of gray
where sunlight hides
her golden rays
in far away places

time seems to stand still
when we become so eager
for springs unfolding bliss

she places bulbs
in jars longing
for what is still
lying in wait
outside her door
