Confusing?
So you can cook your english marmite in a french marmite
But no way can you cook a french marmite in an english marmite
Unless of course your english marmite is in a smaller french marmite
Which you could then place (for whatever cooking reason) in a bigger french marmite

Marmite was invented by a German chemist Baron Justus von Liebeg from the lees left over after beer had been brewed.
Production started in the British town of Burton-on-Trent, a well known center of beer brewing.
But where the coincidence of marmite, the name of stuff which can be eaten, and marmite a ceramic pot, came from is lost in the fumes of the beer-lees marmite is made from.
But, as it was sold in a simple ceramic pot perhaps an educated person searched no further for the marmite trade name it carries, than the light bulb moment marmite food/marmite pot.
Or, perhaps, it was named marmite to give it a more international " flavour "
Whatever. We can thank prolific beer drinkers for the large amount of lees left
which motivated business people/ chemists to turn the lees into more money.
P.S. (another whatever) there are folk
who believe that both marmite & marmite are uneatable

This made me laugh! I like the wordplay and inside-out-ness. I haven't got a clue what you're on about, but that's part of the point of Bonkers Corner. Anyway, English Marmite is disgusting!! I wonder if French Marmite is any better?

PS; A French marmite is not a dish: it is a pot in which you put...whatever sort of dish you prepare. So there the confusion and I simply ask where the difference originates from.
