Blue Bird

On a feather my heart flies
and drifts into the open air
as my eyes, on their own accord, cry.
And they offer a lifeless stare.

Again, once more,
I'm counting scars you make,
And my body is sore,
And those scars ache.

So I'll kiss this love goodbye,
Leaving it on the wing of a blue bird,
And tonight I'll sing a broken lullaby,
And I'll try to avoid being absurd.

Ah, it's so hard to go on,
Knowing you're no longer there,
And the bird's once bright song,
Sounds like it is empty and no longer cares.

Ah, once again I am crying,
Looking at our old pictures,
Wishing I'd believed the lying,
Wishing you'd never met her.

I'm kissing my love goodbye,
And sending it far away on the bird's wing,
As I stare up at the stars tonight,
And listen to many nearby cicadas sing.

Sweet Blue Bird, treasure the heart,
that now rests upon your wingtips,
And care for each individual shard,
Where out comes painful love that still drips.
