Fara
Was loneliness reason enough
not to build upon my fallen ego
But just to sit fireside, together
while mother nature cursed us outside
It's not as if I was all taker,
I offered, I fed, your hunger
And you, so generous with your breast
where I laid down my weary head
and we dreamt of the ocean
Prisoners, must we retain the shackles
knowing that one day,
rust will eat them away
So late in our winter, arthritic
too late to try mended wings
If we stop to think, such depth
just what could we point it to
I shall sleep without thinking
and hope that dreams hold back tomorrow
Does it matter, Fara, yesterday's road
if we stop to rest together, for now
Not to add to each other's burdens
not to compare our scars and strengths
Maybe it's just that I'm alone, cold
like you, and so very hungry
I don't want to think about Christmas
I want to lay down my head
beside the softness of your hair
and let the dreams unfold the 'morrow.
