Hemisphere Two: Scarlet Lamentations

Amazon Rain Forest, 1721

How the leaves in the rain forest seem to hold more light, almost seeming to shine from within.

Having recently graduated from the Academie Royale de Pienture et Sculpture, Philip LeMarchand studies the way the light interacts with the shadows, following his guide, as well as his deepest curiosities.

Being two weeks into the depths of unexplored rainforest, everything becomes an alien meeting.

His bag contains multiple specimens of multiple species.

But there is room for the real purpose of this vast exploration, as the sun begins to whisper orange into the vaporous dusk.

His guide points, chewing on leaves from the jungle.

A towering structure, hidden by years of growth.

Walking around the base of the pyramid, he unravels a scroll with a drawing of the pyramid, reportedly originating from norse explorers.

It is a perfect match.

He begins to dig.

A few feet under the surface, the mini archeological shovel makes contact with something solid.

A mechanism to unlock a secret, subterranean passageway.

There is a place of stone for the sacred candles, casting soft shadows upon the ancient altar.

He breathes.

On the altar is a small hand carved, stone figure, having a solemn expression, in the dancing candlelight.

LeMarchand follows instructions that reveal a hidden compartment in the altar.

“I have found it.”

He raises the box.

A zip and a whir.

A click.

A zip click whir…  Increasing speed.  Opening.  Revealing.

A green glow.

(He finds what would later be known as: Element 115.)
