Defending Innocence

It’s too easy to make her cry
I protect her from the dirt outside
She makes good grades
And doesn’t care what people think
She doesn’t lie to hide her mistakes
They’ve never been made
She doesn’t fight back
She’s better than that

She thinks she’s better than everyone
She’s condescending
And never learned how to have fun

She’s a stranger to empathy
Polite without real sympathy
They think she’s the nicest person around
But she’s always looking down
It’s not her fault
She lives at the top

She’s not scared to show emotion
She doesn’t think life is hopeless
She can study all day
And not complain
Her clothes always fit
They don’t burn her skin
She can try without needing a reason why
She’s perfect and I want her mind

Without her I’d be alone
We play the games we should’ve outgrown
I move the spiders when she screams
And save her the last piece
Though she never does the same for me
I have to do the dirty work
Maybe one day she’ll learn
My hatred is deserved
