The Blessings of an Early Morning
I am too late.
My throat is soar as my teeth pang.
My eyelids are heavy as my eyes sting.
My legs give way as I try to lower myself.
I am falling.
My vision is fading and I blink again.
My back is crumbling and I stand up straighter.
My knees bend away from me and I stand on my toes.
A burning sun of faint excess.
My heart gives way like my brain that doesn't respond.
My arms feel weak like I can't hold on any longer.
My breath is shallow like a gasp from a cold existence.
The lights above get brighter.
I want to remain upright but gravity says otherwise.
My life shouldn't be this sad but my thoughts tell me otherwise.
I can no longer understand what is supposed to happen but my body still obeys.
To the floor below.
I see the ground growing closer to my head and body.
My soul feels farther but my mind feels closer to the end.
The water pool is closer now than ever before.
My head is tilting.
My eyes close while my brain pretends to operate.
My lungs stop while my hand bends behind my back.
My mind falls asleep while the world stops spinning.
I cannot see.
I can stand back up but my body doesn't respond.
I thought I might stand but I cannot.
I thought I was standing but I am not.
I am blinking.
My throat is soar as my teeth pang.
My eyelids are heavy as my eyes sting.
My legs give way as I try to lower myself.
I am falling.
My vision is fading and I blink again.
My back is crumbling and I stand up straighter.
