“Home”

It is a lovely home I’ve made
So far from the world.
Everyone is lonely here
But I am loneliest of all—
There is no-one to talk to here
Who has blood and skin and bones.
But they never laugh at me
When I talk about you.
They never question me
When I say I am afraid.

I don’t know why I can’t
Love you and live forever.
The funeral comes if you are on my mind.
The only thing I ask of you
Is please do not hurt me.
Don’t send me back to that place
Where I am not so lonely—
Please do not send me back
To where they place their wires inside me.

Everyone I talk to here
Is invisible. And they listen.
They’re just as interested as you
But they will not betray me…
The only thing I ask of you
Is please do not hurt me.
Don’t send me from my friends
Who you cannot see.
Don’t send me form the love
Of a place that has never been,
Even if it’s a place you’ve never seen.
I’m trying to tell these things to you
But you are not listening.

Surely you can tell I mean you no harm.
I’m so scared of when you speak,
For I know only silent replies—
But please don’t stop speaking:
I don’t want to say goodbye
Because They do not speak like you.
The only thing I ask of you
Is please do not hurt me.
Please don’t send me away
To where they build the bracelets
That we wear every day.
I don’t want to go there.
I just want to talk to someone
Who I can see
And who can see me.
Please don’t tell them that I told you
Because I am just trying to be innocent.
I’m trying to be quiet, and dream.
