Shut Up and Write

DUP is a sick fucking cesspool but we all need it for one reason or another.

To me it's always been about the writing but being DUP it's frequently a drama festival.

I write, I leave comments and engage.  Try to avoid the noise and the sickness that prevails amongst some members.

I could say much more but this is enough.

I've been here for 9 years and have seen it all.

Well by no means am I bashing on this place. It gave me and outlet that I couldn't get anywhere else. But there are traps here set by some people, and it is very easy to fall into those traps.

I started in 2014 on my older account so missed you by a year hehe. When I first started i very much got pulled into this drama. Not to say I didn't make my own mistakes. But it was always about the poetry and I had to remind myself that a few times.

And I too have some stories myself that are best left in the past.

It's poetry like yours, the quality of your work and the character you reveal within your poems and especially your actions that reinforce and remind me of the good that DUP offers. Thanks for that... always.

Social media sites will always attract a certain caliber of person like you've described within your poem, so I can fully relate to this piece a million percent. My biggest and only true desire is to be free of negative nonsense and to write poetry. I strive to do exactly what you say in your closing...

"coudn't get away from drama
some people are just bad for the soul
figured the best way to get back
was to live my life
tell my story
and hit back if necessary"

This place is a special place but like you said social media is a place where we have to deal with the best and worst. For me I would just ignore things that are negative and release those feelings in writing. It works but I do get worked up once and awhile. It's hard to not when people can be really negative.

As that line says it is living a happy life on and offline that is the best revenge.

I reread this one this morning, as well as your wise reply because I felt the need to reinvigorate myself with the positive energy that I know I derive from you and your poems, given that I feel you and I have been in similar situations here on DUP. It's funny though, that no matter how hard you try to be yourself; to be compassionate, honest and to try to stay as far away from any drama in an attempt to hopefully free yourself of the BS that gets slung... how it still somehow manages to find you. Maybe one day here on DUP I'll not have to worry about watching my back or be surprised by it sneaking up on me .... I look forward to that time.  

I did renew myself with your words of poetry, your wisdom and with much needed clarity. Thanks again for being a sounding board and beacon for advice , DC.... you rock.

I always appreciate your honesty, and the strength and passion in all of your writes as well as how direct you are. When I first arrived I did not have any issues either and it was a very positive thing. This outlet away from everything else I am dealing with and I found I needed it more than I ever could have imagined. I had never really thought about writing poetry. I would write other things but that was for my eyes only mostly trying to get out emotions and things like that because I needed somewhere for certain things to go. But I started to see other things and I could see the warning signs still I just hoped it would be okay. Over time things became so much worse. Often making me feel like I needed to leave since the negativity would really affect me. I try to ignore it but I am a very passionate person in everything I do and that passion can open you up to feeling things more intensely; the good and bad. With my Mom's condition and caring for her, and other things I really needed this to stay something positive. In February I finally more or less left because the negativity was just something I didn't want to deal with along with everything else until about mid May when I decided I wanted to try again. That maybe things would be different but in reality in many ways it has been worse. It definitely seems impossible to get away from the drama and some people are very bad for the soul. I had hoped in a community that should be about support, growth, appreciation, understanding, kindness, and sharing that it would be different than other social media. But it's the same and even worse than some others. I stopped using any other social media a while ago because I found it to be toxic in many ways. I feel like I contribute something here and honestly it took  me a while to fully accept that. And there are some that want to take that away from me and have done a very effective job of trying to do that using lots of creative ways to constantly let me know how unwelcome I am and try to hurt and damage me in any way possible. Even now I find myself wondering if it's worth it. Because I need this to be something positive in my life. I don't understand why there has to be so much hatred and negativity. Like I said in my post Empathy "If you don't like my posts then just don't read them, if you don't like me just leave me alone". There are so many exceptional people here and it's truly sad that so few can try to ruin that for some people. And that some people love the drama and 'getting a response' is exactly what they want because I suppose in some sick way they get off on that. I have even come to realize that some people can try to justify that behavior by seeming to truly convince themselves of their own lies and create a twisted version of things that is entirely not based in truth or facts. I just wish things were different but I have come to realize some things never change and I guess I have to accept that or move on. Although I definitely don't want to give into such hatred and pettiness.

Well I try not to give into the trolls. Honestly this place is for poets like you, not trolls. They are the unwelcome ones. I very much understand needing a positive outlet and then having to deal with assholes. Online can bring out the worst in people. They say things that they woudn't say in real life and or don't really believe but do so just to be bullies.
I fell into traps harder than most. Really made me feel like a piece of crap some days. And it was at a time where things felt like they were falling apart. But when I was at my lowest I decided I wanted to be better than I was. I wanted to work harder to be better than anyone thought of me. So I worked harder to impress myself. And the haters still came and still went, but my pride and my drive, they couldn't kill that, because I was doing it for me and the positive ones in my life.

This is a special place that can be positive. Don't let losers take that.
