to Caelumos
Sunny above-the-clouds
Engines running in perpetual motion
Sailing across an endless sea
Of mist and rays and condensation
Tri-layered atmosphere perforation
Panels on either side
Fling the photons
I cannot ever remember us not moving
And occasionally we come down
To cities and towns on the coast
And then back up
With diamonds and gold-grained rice and wheat
Real jewels have less value,
With the interior of the earth so dry
They talk of the capital city
It has been a very long time since I’ve been back
My birthplace
But my work aboard this merchanteer craft
Guiding under stars and clear
Listening to the electrical birds
The radio’s chirps and crackles
My mother likes to make tea out of the rainwater
With ship-grown leaves unsweet
We sail under a setting sun
The wind never blows, really,
We follow it, always in its wake
