Polymath

There's no use pretending otherwise,
so I'll give it to you straight:
I'm a very nosy parker.
I consider us to have a tentative friendship
and I've filled in details I didn't already know about you
with a quick Google, months ago.
Today, I watched your TED talk.
So now you know!

I learned a lot, while simuntaneously
not having a clue what you were talking about.
Your work explores the interface
between art and science,
robotics, space and architecture
which is bewildering to me,
a mere music teacher.
My domains are woodwind and (increasingly) languages
but you navigate my world as well;
a mentor for my beginner poetry,
who unwittingly prevents me from
uploading just any old drivel.
You inspire me to sit up straight,
to think more clearly
and to write more deliberately.
Somehow, I improve
if I know that you are watching
(or even think you might be).

A polymath, a polyglot
with very wide gifting,
you have much in common
with my other friends.
Inexplicably, I've surrounded myself
with fascinating people;
mainly super-brains.
This could make me feel inadequate
but I choose to learn and grow.

You also know
that both you and I
have extra reasons
to persevere, to graft,
to never stop trying
and to lean on others.
I don't think you knew
that I know,
but now you do.
What can I say?

I'm a very nosy parker.
I have good intentions.
I hope you don't mind
(and that this makes it up to you).
