Morpheus Reveals: Magnum Opus

i became
a field of soft fern
an evening meadow
a transmuted soul

consumed
by white mushrooms
and long blades of grass
planting their roots

in my veins
i’m afraid of
what they’ll do to me
so i rip them all out

but the fungi remains
too deep to
uproot
now an IV tube

its spores spotting
my left forearm
over scars burning red
where skin once bled

what does it want
from body and flesh?
does it not
want me dead?

compelled
to accept that
it’s a part of me
now we are one

as i scratch
at the surface
i ponder at
the purpose

of this dream
