An Elegy
Elegy for April by Benjamin Black.
For some reason this novel disturbed me
Dublin around 1949-1950
April is an intern at a local hospital
Missing now for a week
Her friends are concerned.
Her family - not.
Nasty forebodings
We sense - we know - she is dead.
She is not heard from
We get to know a bit about who she is
Mainly through her friends
A tiny bit from members of her family
Three weeks late, dénouement.
We know who and what killed her
Not a nice story.
Such is life.
Not always nice either.
