Dead Batteries

A room full of people without their phones
The place only blackouts let us go
We’ll build a house out of pillows
With a lamp in the middle of the room
We’ll talk about the weather like it’s something new
We get to forget the open doors will be closed soon

We lose the time
And finally come alive
We’ll never close our eyes

We color the walls
With the candle light
The lightning flashes from the blinds
Stops all our stupid fights
We remember we all live in the same house
When the power goes out

We’re too old now
We just sit around and wait it out
The silence gets loud
When we don’t have anything to do
The closed doors don’t pull the air through
So we go back to wishing on the moon
That the people we miss
Miss us too

Now we sleep with nightlights
And don’t close our eyes
Until the shadows get bright

We used to color the walls
With the candle light
The lightning flashes from the blinds
Stopped all our stupid fights
We remembered we all lived in the same house
When the power went out

We lost the magic when we got old
This crowded space isn’t a home
Now I want to love from a distance
And live all alone
