Recovering

fingertips on lips
he whispered hush baby hush
and I watched frozen
to his command
as he slipped away
through the open window

hush mocked the wind
soughing through the leaves
of the guava tree
as I watched him fly
and disappear
into the dawn mists

the drizzle on zinc rooftop
pattered incessantly
like a refrain
of a dozen repeated verses

Slumber on
blanketed in lethargy
