Chasing butterflies

You asked me to stay,
you held your hand out
and asked me
to come back to bed.

I woke up
my legs wrapped around
your thigh.

and damn if you weren't
doing that thing...

that thing you do
that transforms me from
a fearless warrior
to a child
chasing butterflies
under a blue sky

I was still curled against you
and you leaned over and
brushed my hair out of my face
in a nearly familiar moment
that fucks up my day

I wanted to grab onto you
hold you in that moment,
bat my eyes and beg you
to make it last

a little while longer

just a little while longer

I wanted to pull the sheets
over our heads and make
a clubhouse of bedclothes,
our skin tinted gold
as the sun peeked through
our make believe shield

I wanted to make a
throne out of your lap,
in our secret bedsheet tent,
with those playful touches
that turn into urgent torture,
and soft whispers
that bleed into
cries

And I wanted to stay there
for a moment longer,

just a moment,

and chase butterflies
with you
under a
careless blue sky.
