driving under a bridge
You know when the rain is coming down so hard
Like it’s enough to signal a battleground?
And the water floods around your car
Where you seek shelter from the roads that have drowned?
There’s a cascade of gunshots on the roof,
Painted lines are washed away
You wonder if the windshield is bulletproof
Forgetting it’s just the rain
And then there’s a lull, a peaceful sway of the sea
Beneath an overpass you find
The loudest silence there could ever be
And the longest second passing you by
Like the world has stopped
It’s kind of nice
Your ears go soft
A quiet mind.
But then you drive out & it hits you harder than before
The most insistent tempest thats ever lived
I ask because in those parts of the storm
You were always my bridge
Like it’s enough to signal a battleground?
And the water floods around your car
Where you seek shelter from the roads that have drowned?
There’s a cascade of gunshots on the roof,
Painted lines are washed away
You wonder if the windshield is bulletproof
Forgetting it’s just the rain
And then there’s a lull, a peaceful sway of the sea
Beneath an overpass you find
The loudest silence there could ever be
And the longest second passing you by
Like the world has stopped
It’s kind of nice
Your ears go soft
A quiet mind.
But then you drive out & it hits you harder than before
The most insistent tempest thats ever lived
I ask because in those parts of the storm
You were always my bridge
