I want it to be worth it,
to be Alice,
to look through the keyhole
and see the other side,
the world beyond these brick walls,
a hand that fits inside mine,
see the way love breathes,
the disquiet of joy spread across sheets,
across pages,
the impact it has on those I'm around,
that he finds his thing,
his fix,
his creme anglaise,
his pleasing beauty
and lays in the light of it all,
the impact it has on those he's around,
that life is allowed to walk gently
alongside one another,
brush shoulders,
that the others will all be okay
in the end.
I drink coffee
in the dawns there,
still, on my own,
am forgiven.
I want to see that here,
committed to a different
way of life.
