Push (the day there was a gunman at school)

I don’t like the way it feels
I mean, does anyone?
When you feel that forceful hand
Knocking you sideways
And you see that twisted face
You don’t even know
If it’s fear or hate
That makes him push you away
Until you do know
And then it shatters everything
Your backpack and your books
You go flying from the stairs
Through the doors and
Then the floor
Falling through that floor
Because you realize
He pushed you hard to save your life
You hear the click
Loud, in an empty stairwell
And you see it so quick
Shiny and black, we know it well
Why is it here
Why did it come to my school
And why can’t I stand
I’ll miss my bus for sure
My dad will worry
He won’t know
I was saved when I was pushed
To the floor
Out the door
