Burning Bridges

 
you find ways to rationalize
when you’re trying to survive
an abusive situation
you self-sooth and say
everything’s going to be okay
but it’s not yet
you still have to learn
to enforce healthy boundaries
and when to walk away
whether it was leaving
my ex husband
or my workplace
disowning family
it’s just the same
abuse wears many hats
disguised in lies
but wise eyes recognize
the time to cut all ties
for the sake of personal growth
