The Weight Of Gold
The Weight of Gold
Can you feel it, can you
Somewhere there plays a lute
Encouraging you to feel
Take up the sword and dance
Spinning
Uncontrollably
As the heaviness of the metal in your hands
Rests now on your shoulders
But you can’t stop
Drums beat in the iron forest
Cities that never sleep
Air conditioners humming
Fans never ceasing
Like you
Never stopping
The dance
With the burden you carry
Ribbons in the wind
A lightness you’ll never feel again
Spinning
The circle on your finger
Heaving your chest upwards
As dirty rain falls
Into buckets for collecting
March forward
Up the broken crying steps
To the tinkle of tiny bells
Adorned on your sword
With each step
Feeling more pulled down
At the heaviness
Of gold
Can you feel it, can you
Somewhere there plays a lute
Encouraging you to feel
Take up the sword and dance
Spinning
Uncontrollably
As the heaviness of the metal in your hands
Rests now on your shoulders
But you can’t stop
Drums beat in the iron forest
Cities that never sleep
Air conditioners humming
Fans never ceasing
Like you
Never stopping
The dance
With the burden you carry
Ribbons in the wind
A lightness you’ll never feel again
Spinning
The circle on your finger
Heaving your chest upwards
As dirty rain falls
Into buckets for collecting
March forward
Up the broken crying steps
To the tinkle of tiny bells
Adorned on your sword
With each step
Feeling more pulled down
At the heaviness
Of gold
