Anxiety is a Girl’s Best Friend
amidst the wreckage
she found me,
pulled me free
and just like that,
we were friends;
bound together
by circumstance,
bonded by our
twin reaction
to trauma, which was
to keep it all in,
and display no reaction at all;
the more dysfunction
we found inside each other
(and within ourselves),
the deeper we fell in
until every wrong turn
deserved another
in a destructive cycle;
a carousel of
codependent connection
before finally, one of us
had to end things badly
in a matter of survival;
just like that,
I let go of her
(sometimes)
a hundred times a day
she found me,
pulled me free
and just like that,
we were friends;
bound together
by circumstance,
bonded by our
twin reaction
to trauma, which was
to keep it all in,
and display no reaction at all;
the more dysfunction
we found inside each other
(and within ourselves),
the deeper we fell in
until every wrong turn
deserved another
in a destructive cycle;
a carousel of
codependent connection
before finally, one of us
had to end things badly
in a matter of survival;
just like that,
I let go of her
(sometimes)
a hundred times a day
