feather friends

“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet
your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?”  Matthew 6:26

of egrets and finches,
mammoth or mere inches,
my feather friends kite thru
the crisp morning light,
or prospect in trenches
for noble adventures,
or skim ocean fare to
appease appetite.

proboscis and talon,
for nectar or shallon,
my feather friends bite thru
their hunger-clad thirst,
sharp eyes ever wary,
lest man, mean and dreary,
should levy a carnage
that leaves them accursed.

cuckoos and roadrunners
delight in the summers;
hornbills and seriemas,
canaries and cranes
coo, cackle, and whisper,
at dawn or at vesper,
symphonic delight from
a myriad of strains.

kagus and sunbitterns,
penguins and great herons,
abundantly feathered
--in gossamer clad—,
the earth fill with pleasure
no human can measure,
declaring forever
the Glory of God.
