a box in storage

ravenous
specific
ultimate food craving
you assuage
with sensible meals
telling yourself they're enough

knowing what you need
after getting close to it
after getting
a single
exquisite
delicious
savory
salty
sweet
bite 
turns a convenience store match
into an erupting solar flare
appetite incendiary
wildfires rage
hunger
consumes your life

knowing what you need
when it may be possible to get it
if you don't do the wrong thing
like you have so many times before
if you do the amazing right thing
like you've done once or twice
if the fates tip
this way or that
the perfect exquisite bite-sized taste
could replace every barely good enough meal

when you are that close
the Need
could have you cursing your hoping
your longing
your genius level daydreaming
your useless belief in fate
and instead
turn you into a hunter
under an arcing sun
full of incendiary desire
to conquer
to attain
to at least try
