A Lesson in Time and Distance
it is quite the story
we get to tell people when the question
"how did you guys meet?" falls
and it always does
two people
needing escape from reality
so they created their own
we wrote our way to friendship
inspired one another
shared music
pictures
stories
ideas
found love
or so we thought
when we didn't really know
just what that was supposed to be
and we just weren't
ready
time passed
and it was so mean
flying by but making it feel
as if it never really did
and with that time
came distance
silence
stretches of it
but we'd always have our stories
and something
that couldn't quite be friendship
nor more
the one thing I regret
is that the second time around
I was
the least me
I will probably ever be
I'm sorry
Sorry that time
sometimes creates more wounds
than it can heal
but our time
is now
time as far as the eye can see
time to heal
to love
to cry
and laugh
time together
time apart
just give it some time
time and distance
both so cruel
and yet forgiving
at the same time
they gave me you
but also keep you away
however bitter
it is always more sweet
to know we are here
at last
together
even when we aren't
