How strong is your faith today?
Have any lustful thoughts led you astray?
Have any heavenly bodies made you get on your knees and pray?
Have you blamed your yearning for freedom on the devil trying to lead you down a path of spiritual decay?
Have you been suppressing all of your desires, because the church told you it’s not the holy way?
Have you bitten your tongue far too many times because mommy dearest ‘didn’t raise you that way’?
Did you remember when you woke up this morning to put your mask on straight away?
Did you manage to pray away your suicidal thoughts; are you still pretending you’re ok?

Author's Note
An important side note for context - This poem is not about me. It's about someone I previously saw romantically, who was incredibly religious /conservative; along with his family. I wrote this as if I were asking him whether or not he's realized yet the only person who can save him is himself, and that his conservative beliefs are causing emotional distress within him; since he's highly criticized for his choices as a young man by his family. Enjoy my Taylor Swift moment! Haha!

Religion can be oppressive if the beliefs lead to someone suppressing the freedom of discovering themselves.
Experiences allow people to grow and if waking up as a man with your healthy self is misinterpreted as inward temptation it's wrong.
Our natural human biology can't be policed by the church like it did to Galileo when he told it that the sun was at the centre, not the earth.
Unfortunately if one's views are too extreme blinding the person into the dangers of fundamentalist radicalism. It's best to leave them.

I liked this, it conveys the ideas of faith, family, upbringing and convictions.
